Toto - Africa

Why is this song so oft covered?  Because it's awesome!

The original

It's been covered by, what seems like, everybody and their dog.  From amateurs (see below) to professional bands (see list below, no videos), everybody seems to want to add their interpretation.  Funny thing is that most do it the

Power Metal?

When i was younger I was into metal.  But back then, what I considered metal is now considered rock.  Lately, I've been getting into this sub genre of metal called "power" or "symphonic".

The first song below is the seed of my Pandora station.  I discovered it as an actuary friend of mine introduced me to it:

Enjoy:

Musical Discoveries of the Day: Luke Sital Singh

There have been only a handful of times where I heard one song and went out seeking an entire album.  It just happened today...twice.  Both from the UK.

At the suggestion of my one reader, here's a youtube playlist with all these songs (only 2 today).

Unfortunately, Royal Blood's album is not available in the US yet.  Hmmm...I have a cousin in the UK...

Canadian Music Edition

Everybody seems to know about Arcade Fire, what with their recent album release.  Then there's Justin Bieber.  That's enough about him.

Anyway, here are a bunch of "old" Canadian tunes from the late 90s/early 00s.  I was inspired to do this post after the first song below came up when I put my iTunes on "shuffle".

The Watchmen - Absolutely Anytime

The Tragically Hip - Grace Too

Big Wreck - The Oaf (My Luck is Wasted)

Spirit of the West - Home for a Rest

Treble Charger - American Psycho

Gob - Give Up the Grudge

Great CCM songs from the 90s

To me, cause I'm old, the golden age of Christian Contemporary Music is the 90s.  Funny thing is that even CCM has a mainstream and non-mainstream music. Most of these are not in the mainstream.

Enjoy.

A Place Called Love by Fleming & John (on Delusions of Grandeur (1996) )

Lorde Royals and covers

Lorde's song Royals is fantastic.

Here's a 7 foot tall clown covering it:

And here's another band covering it but with cool instrumentation

While we're talking about 7 foot tall clowns, listen to his voice!  Dude can sing!
